BT Internet Phone Scams

Beware of recieving phone calls from recorded messages saying:

"It has been reported that spam has been originating from your IP address, please press 1 to speak to one of our agents now."

Any phone call that is recorded and asks you to press a number is just a system of filtering to find people that might believe the scam and so the best option is to just hang-up rather than hold on and ask to be removed.

Most of the logging of success on these calls is automated, so just by pressing 1 you are registering yoruself as a number for them to contact again with the next scam.

If you do want to use a service, you should source that service yourself by sensible means, and use a trusted provider rather than a phone service that has invaded your privacy. The less these types of invasive tactics are proven to work, the less they will continue invading peoples' lives in future.
